Larionov becomes SKA St. Petersburg's director of hockey operations.. MLive.com12 July 2008Soviet Sport is reporting that former Red Wing Igor Larionov has decided to split time between his home in Los Angeles and another West Coast burgh--St. Petersburg, Russia:
July 18, Soviet Sport [roughly translated]: The well-known hockey player of the recent past, the numerous world championships and the owner of a Stanley Cup will conclude with Petersburg SKA the contract on which he will hold the post of the director for hockey operations for the club. Update: The IIHF has confirmed the signing. Former Red Wings assistant coach Barry Smith currently helms SKA, and Red Wings consultant Scotty Bowman holds a similar at-large role for the team, so SKA has some substantial Red Wings ties.
