Wayne askedWilliam Houston - - The Globe and Mail10 November 2008During his conversation with Hall of Fame inductee Igor Larionov, Hockey Night host Ron MacLean brought up the story of Larionov's breaking curfew to socialize with the Canadian players during the Canada Cup in 1984. This was in Calgary on the night that Canada eliminated the Soviet Union in overtime. Part of the story also involves several hockey writers who were in the same bar where Larionov and the Canadian players were partying. Larionov's appearance was a story, but Wayne Gretzky went over to the writers and asked them not to report it because it would get Larionov in trouble. The reporters complied, because, well, Wayne was asking. Should they have compiled? Of course not.
